Eyes of a frog

frog pond

Dear friends,

It has been a while that I posted here, but today I love to share my response on Universal Jane at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai about Basho’s “old pond”, that famous haiku.

So here are a few frog haiku I wrote during the years, so these aren’t new, but extracted from my archives.

croaking frogs
Basho’s old pond haiku

the sound of water
resonates through my garden
I feel like Basho

against its nature
between stepping stones
eyes of a frog
looking at my grandchildren
playing outside

croaking frogs
scent of the old pond
in the evening

And of course I just had to create a new haiku too … so here is a new one:

croaking frogs
in the light of the sunset
raindrops start to fall

Well … I see you again soon here at Chèvrefeuille’s Haiku.

Heeding Haiku With Chèvrefeuille, March 8th 2017 … Persian poetry to inspire you.

Persian Art

!!! This post you can also find on https://mindlovemiserysmenagerie.wordpress.com I am hosting there this weekly item !!!

Dear friends,

Welcome at a new episode of Heeding Haiku With … Recently I discovered the beauty of Persian (nowadays Iranian) poetry through an article I read. I wonder if you know how beautiful the poetry is of Persia. Maybe you know Rumi or Hafiz, both are renown Persian poets and every Iranian can recite for example the poems by Hafiz. The Iranian people lives in symbiosis with the poetry of Hafiz and they even use his poems to get answers on questions they have.

This week I love to challenge you to create a haiku inspired (or distilled) from a poem by Hafiz.

The Diamond Takes Shape

Some parrots
Have become so skilled with
The human voice
They could give a brilliant discourse
About freedom and God

And an unsighted man nearby might
Even begin applauding with
The thought:
I just heard jewels fall from a
Great saint’s mouth,
Though my Master used to say,

“The diamond takes shape slowly
With integrity’s great force,
And from
The profound courage to never relinquish love.”

Some parrots have become so skilled
With words,
The blind turn over their gold
And lives to caged

I hope I have inspired you to create your poetry, your haiku. I am looking forward to your responses.

Have fun!

Dear friends,

Just minutes ago I launched a new special feature at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, my daily haiku-meme on blogspot. This new feature is titled “Namasté, the spiritual way” and the goal is to create haiku, tanka or other Japanese poetry form with a deeper, spiritual, meaning.
As you maybe know a deeper meaning is part of the classical haiku idea, so I think this can be a wonderful way to improve your haiku writing skills. Here is my submissions for this new CDHK special feature “Namasté, the spiritual way”.

Dear friends,

The Winter Retreat of Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, my daily haiku meme on blogspot, is almost over. You have still five days to participate. The Winter Retreat, 30 days of writing haiku or tanka every day, ends on December 15th 10.00 PM (CET).

For today I have a nice tanka for you in which I think the silence is obvious and strong.

This above haiku is a re-done version of my first English haiku which I wrote back in 2005. This haiku made me an international known haiku poet and was published in the world wide anthology “Spasms of Light”.
